BEGIN LOG
[07:59:58] GM: After settling in on your new ship assignment, the RNS Valkian (CL-723) you are given the penny tour and then the list of key personel you need to be aware of, only one name sticks out and that is of Capt (O-6 Fleet) Youngmeyer, commander of the RNS Taranis (CV-338 Ikazuchi) which is the flagship of the task force under the command of Vice Admiral Renning.
[08:02:39] GM: (For you players, Youngmeyer was the Captain (Then Cmdr (O-5 Fleet) of the Garfish what was to 'busy and important' to enter the Kokiri Shoals and thus locate and frolic on Sala. And thus miss out on glory and fame and other goodies thereof)
[08:03:39] 2Lt. Sarah: (( great. lol. ))
[08:05:41] GM: The area of space you are heading towards is in the vacinity of Ulug Depe, 'north east' or Tirol, 300 ly 'south' of the Cetina/Regusa Scarp (the area of space that divided the Old Republic and Invid Space)
[08:06:37] GM: (More north-northeast but anyway…)
[08:06:41] GM: Whatever
[08:07:39] Capt Kain Crockett: ((North in space? Which way is that? :p Okay, douchebag on top, make it look like you are trying to defend that command tower, but "fly casual."))
[08:08:03] Capt Kain Crockett is fully settled in and begins working on training rosters for the babies.
[08:08:04] GM: ((hense my quotation marks…))
[08:09:03] GM: ((and you can technically have a north, with the Center of teh Galaxy as your 'Pole' just call north 'Core-ward'…but this is about pew pew and fun and not astrogation 101))
[08:11:40] GM: Kain, you get your roster set up and are even able to run a few sorties before you enter your AO and the flotilla splits into Patrol and SAR contingents. (your 'boat' is part of the SAR contingent)
[08:12:38] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lol. astrogation 101 ))
[08:14:44] GM: You head towards the silenced beacon of LV426 (I kid I kid) but seriously, the worlds doesnt have a name, just a registry number. If it had a name during the Old Republic it has been since lost to the ages. It's Registry Number if you care is NE-UGS-S3.4.6
[08:15:40] GM: ((annnd, I think thats about as much jargon as I wanna spew for this ^_^))
[08:17:16] GM: Kain, as Section lead (sorry Ay, you make good exec meterial, and that is recognized, yes, it'll hurt advancement, but plenty of career soldiers are well and happy staying where they are)
[08:17:30] Capt Kain Crockett will stride to whereever he is allowed to gather information from, and tries to get intell on the current situation. [1d20+1] => [19,1] = (20) perc((ison's disease)), [1d100] => [88] = (88) vs 85 Radio: Basic, [1d100] => [21] = (21) vs 70 RSI, [1d100] => [27] = (27) vs 65 detect ambush, [1d100] => [100] = (100) vs 71 Intelligence ((in the human species?)), [1d100] => [14] = (14) vs 70 Surveilance.
[08:17:47] 2Lt. Sarah: (( Ay doesn't want to be the exec, remember? lol ))
[08:17:52] 2Lt. Sarah: (( it made her unhappy ))
[08:17:57] Capt Kain Crockett: ((apparently no intelligence in the human species at all. Kain just wiped it out.))
[08:18:04] GM: ((fine, replace Exec with mook))
[08:18:06] 2Lt. Sarah: (( good one Kain! ))
[08:18:08] 2Lt. Sarah: (( hehe ))
[08:20:34] 2Lt. Sarah tries to see if she can find anything out from what she's allowed to, as well. [1d20+1] => [10,1] = (11) perc [1d100] => [7] = (7) vs. 86% Lore Invid, [1d100] => [19] = (19) vs. 80% Detect Concealment, [1d100] => [20] = (20) vs. 85% detect ambush, [1d100] => [89] = (89) vs. .75% RSI, [1d30] => [5] = (5) vs. 18 IQ
[08:21:22] WO Febrith Nyx does her own gather info rolls. [1d20+1] => [10,1] = (11) Perc, [1d100] => [79] = (79) vs 53 RSI, [1d100] => [99] = (99) vs 63 Intelligence
[08:21:30] WO Febrith Nyx: ((ROFL))
[08:22:22] GM: Kain, you are able to locate the settlement on the surface, there are no radio broadcasts but for the automated distress beacon. Garfish dont have sensors made for ground scanning like you would prefer but they can tell you that there are no military vehicles or mecha active down there. Intell = hurr-durr, and the Ghost Recon drone you detail to overfly the location sends back images of destruction, the settlement was worked over pretty good and you can see some bodies and burned out trucks and load lifters and other utilitarian 'mecha' here and there.
[08:23:04] GM: Nyx…you accidentaly…the whole thing.
[08:24:59] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "Boob smack you in the face?"
[08:25:17] 2Lt. Sarah: (( anything for my rolls? :p ))
[08:25:20] WO Febrith Nyx: "You wish you had that problem."
[08:29:08] GM: Sarah: The blast patterns are to precise for sandpeople…keke, the profile does match the Regents forces penchant for raid and fade. You'd be able to tell more from closer; this far removed and all you can do is speculate. But generally speaking, it looks like an Invid attack (as other factions would likly have carted off the vehicles that werent damaged etc, stuff like that)
[08:30:56] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lol ))
[08:31:14] 2Lt. Sarah makes notes of all that, frowning at the whole scene.
[08:34:00] GM: Kain, you are told prep a search team for deployment. The Valkain will enter the atmosphere and stand off the traget area by about 500 miles and hold station there.
[08:34:49] Capt Kain Crockett gathers up the usual susptects and takes an engineer that can fly with them, just in case the engineer can fanangle things out of the wreckage.
[08:35:03] Capt Kain Crockett will direct the babies for overwatch flights.
[08:35:35] 2Lt. Sarah dons her CVR as a 'usual suspect', and gets ready for mission departure.
[08:35:58] Cpt. Aylanea straps her armor on cheerily, rubbing her hands.
[08:39:44] GM: You deploy and enter the outskirts of the settlement. It's a dusty frontier spot, the surrounding area has arable land (abandonded farms circle the settlement proper) some animals, grazers are wandering to and fro in an aimless manner, while stock that requires attention have likely expire are are close to it.
[08:40:07] GM: (have expired or are…)
[08:41:21] Capt Kain Crockett shakes his head, "I don't know if anybody here knows how to feed the almost dead ones?"
[08:41:26] Cpt. Aylanea: "Um, no?"
[08:41:59] 2Lt. Sarah: "Probably need food stores for that, can't exactly go into the field and get it."
[08:42:42] GM: You do what you can for them and move on
[08:42:50] GM: (not bogging down on minutia)
[08:44:25] GM: Entering the town perimeter you can see the result of the attack is stark detail, homes and other structures hae been leveled , some look as if they had been used as cover, and the central structure, a repurposed Zent Reentry Lander has been gutted and burned out.
[08:44:45] Capt Kain Crockett looks over the site for any signs as to where the invid might have gone. [1d20+1] => [12,1] = (13) Perc, [1d100] => [67] = (67) vs 71 Intelligence, [1d100] => [37] = (37) vs 60 tracking, [1d100] => [81] = (81) vs 70 RSI
[08:46:15] GM: Tracks leading to and from the town head to the west (you also see the tracks of what was likely a good sized horde of Cougars, given the swatch of churned up farmland trampled under their wicked claws)
[08:46:42] GM: (swatch = swath)
[08:46:55] Capt Kain Crockett: "Inorganics are always fun, I feel like I should be armed with mini-nukes everytime."
[08:48:09] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "Sounds fun. I had assumed that the ring on your finger meant you preferred actual people, but I guess marrying a can opener is legal anymore."
[08:48:36] GM: The 'babies' aloft snicker at Kains expense
[08:49:14] 2Lt. Sarah coughs softly at that.
[08:49:51] 2Lt. Sarah: "Cute, really cute."
[08:50:35] GM: Continuing your investigation?
[08:51:52] Capt Kain Crockett contineu to follow the tracks.
[08:52:20] 2Lt. Sarah tries t scan for anything, and watch for trouble. [1d20+1] => [20,1] = (21) perc, [1d100] => [23] = (23) vs. 75% RSI, [1d100] => [19] = (19) vs. 80% Detect Concealment, [1d100] => [28] = (28) vs. 85% detect ambush.
[08:58:46] GM: Sarah, initally your skills at observation was hampered by the fine silt like waftings of airborne particulate matter, which you identify as the remains of slain inorganics, apparently the settlement did score a few kills before it fell. You also notice that the bodies in the streets are contorted, and look to have died clawing at their hair and throats, victems of the Srimm's deadly gas attacks, which tells you the Invid achieved surprise and attacked before everyone culd either be warned, or reach shelter. As you 'filter' out the background noise, you notice a few localized protoculture sources within a few nearby buildings, and within the burned out 'town hall' the sources are small, maybe the size of a large dog (not a cougar just telling you that now)
[09:00:18] GM: You can also hear unearlty aline whsiperings on the edge of your consiousness
[09:00:33] GM: (jesus.. unearthly alien)
[09:01:09] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Is siri typing for you again?))
[09:01:13] 2Lt. Sarah reports some of that, and tries to listen to the whisperings, to see if they're still 'familiar', since she is an alien and not from Earth. [1d100] => [95] = (95) vs. 98% Language Opteran, [1d100] => [28] = (28) vs. 86% Lore Invid
[09:01:22] GM: ((yeah…))
[09:02:35] 2Lt. Sarah: (( roflroflrofl ))
[09:03:28] GM: You cant really make out the syntax but you know it's Invid, that much is a certianty, and your gut tells you it's prolly an FO relaying data
[09:04:01] 2Lt. Sarah lets Kain and the group know that, quickly, frowning and trying to keep mindful of possibly being watched.
[09:05:06] Lt. Melanie McGregor tries to figure out where they may be going. [1d20] => [13] = (13) Perc, [1d100] => [78] = (78) vs 84 RSI
[09:05:07] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lemme know when I can roll again, she'll keep trying to make out syntax of course ))
[09:05:09] GM: ((you know, you guys can if you want open your REF Field guides up, etc…))
[09:05:50] Capt Kain Crockett rolls his eyes, "WE got inorganics, stick to the skies and try to bomb them."
[09:06:47] GM: Mel, you realize taht what Sarah just described is 99.99% a Crann's detachamble sensor hand.
[09:07:45] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "Worse, these are sensor hands. We're being tracked."
[09:08:24] Capt Kain Crockett: [1d20+1] => [14,1] = (15) PERC, [1d100] => [27] = (27) vs 65 Detect Ambush, [1d100] => [27] = (27) vs 70 RSI
[09:10:43] 2Lt. Sarah starts thinking a little and marking the locations of the PC traces sensed, to upload to the maps, watching to see if any of them move any. [1d20+5] => [7,5] = (12)
[09:10:55] GM: Kain, with that info confirmed, you realize that the Invid have A: already sized you up, B: have likely called in units sufficiant to thump you and C: the 'Hands' probobly dont know they have been discovered. (after all, humans and tirolians dont usually have the ability to sense PC)
[09:12:29] Capt Kain Crockett: "So who wants to counter-ambush the ambush?"
[09:13:15] Capt Kain Crockett: "Sarah, find a few of the hands less likely to be missed and wipe them out, preferably in a way that makes it look like you were spooked."
[09:13:47] GM: ((Kain, spoiler alert, kill a crann, and like any invid death, it gets noticed by the rest of the hive))
[09:13:58] GM: ((goes for the hands too))
[09:14:06] 2Lt. Sarah nods quickly. "Remember, any active hands will notice our power signatures, and where they're shut off at…"
[09:14:20] 2Lt. Sarah: (( doesn't matter much if they already have us sized up and have inbound strikes on the way ))
[09:14:22] Capt Kain Crockett: "Lt. Snarky, set us up with some field fortifications. I'll handle the camoflage. If Warrant Officer Torture has any bright ideas on psyching them out, do so."
[09:15:31] Capt Kain Crockett: "so what are the rest of your suggestions?"
[09:18:39] 2Lt. Sarah: "By myself, I can't flood the hivenet with enough bullshit to cause problems, unfortunately. Unless we trash all the hands, and they'll likely sense that back at their base, they'll know right where we are, the hands are tracking our engine signatures more than anything. That's why the expedition was so quick to accept the tainted 'miracle' to set themselves up for the last war. To keep that from happening." She ponders. "But everyone should know that." she frowns and sighs.
[09:20:00] 2Lt. Sarah tries to think, to remember what was known about the inorganics and how they'd been defeated previously. [1d100] => [28] = (28) Lore Invid vs. 86%
[09:21:18] GM: Sarah, the invid already know you are here, nothing is going to change that, hands already got that info out, best thing now would be to either quit the field before their reinforcements that are creeping on you arrive, or, kill all the hands at the same time so they others come in blind.
[09:22:50] GM: It all really boils down to, do you need to fight? do you want to fight?
[09:22:54] 2Lt. Sarah so notes that to the others.
[09:23:57] Capt Kain Crockett: "How many hands are there, and how feasible would it be to wipe them all out simulaneously?"
[09:25:09] Capt Kain Crockett: "Actually, we don't need this fight. Let's RTB, and report what we found."
[09:25:37] GM: That would be easy enough, there are four, and you guys could simply 'walk casually' and plant yourself on top of them, they prolly wont move, thinking you just parked there to have a smoke or some such inana human activity, and on the call blow em all up, hell, I wont even make you roll. If thats what you wanna do.
[09:26:10] GM: good call Kain
[09:26:32] 2Lt. Sarah: "What we need to do is find the controlling brain." She nods. "We could sit here fighting inorganics until our mechs are ripped apart otherwise."
[09:26:44] GM: And in so doing, you protect the fact that you (you all) can detect PC…now the Invid in Charge will be all, 'well shucky darn, missed em by /that/ much!
[09:28:13] GM: Sating your RTB so as not to look like a "AHH lets the hell out of here!" and more a "Okay, wrap it up and head home" kinda thing, you rejoin your babies and head back to the 'Fish.
[09:28:21] GM: (sating = staging)
[09:29:02] GM: The Captian of which, after hearing your inital reports, takes teh Fish back into orbit.
[09:30:08] 2Lt. Sarah: (( hehehe ))
[09:30:54] GM: Okay, so what do now?
[09:31:44] Capt Kain Crockett: "So, we need to find that P-Brain, or would that be iBrain?"
[09:32:30] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "I could set up a protoculture flare of sorts, launch it at the planet, and we can use Ghost Drones to find where they came from."
[09:32:59] GM: afk bio
[09:33:10] 2Lt. Sarah nods. "Did we bring any of the emulators to use as flares?"
[09:33:27] 2Lt. Sarah: "I'd hope if we expected Invid contact they would have, but…"
[09:35:22] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "If we don't have one, I can build one."
[09:36:34] 2Lt. Sarah: "Used a few at the end of the battle of Tirol, to wake a scorpion up to shoot at the haydonite ships that were haranguging the Phoenix launch attempt."
[09:38:37] GM: (back)
[09:39:47] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "Nice. Hrmm, how big a signal do you want? Kilojoules, Megajoules, Gigajoules, Etajoules?"
[09:41:27] 2Lt. Sarah: "Hmm…" she grins and ponders that a bit. "Likely need it significant sized, or need multiple smaller ones, to draw them out…"
[09:43:37] GM: (yes, the Fish is carrying a supply of emulators)
[09:44:00] 2Lt. Sarah: (( @yay, okay ^_^ ))
[09:44:50] 2Lt. Sarah laughs a little. "I'd suggest making one big enough to make it look like we were colony dropping a Zentraedi high command asteroid on them, but probably not practical."
[09:45:09] GM: (range for invid detection on them is 1 mile, 2 if an invid scout)
[09:45:18] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "I can probably rig up a 5.1 Megajoule rig that will last for about 45 minutes. I need actual Protoculture to boost the signal." [1d100] => [1] = (1) vs 94 Electrical Engineer, [1d100] => [50] = (50) vs 89 Protoculture Engineer, [1d100] => [13] = (13) vs 64 Reflex Systems Mechanics
[09:45:45] Lt. Melanie McGregor: ((how well does Mel modify them to work better based on those rolls?))
[09:46:21] GM: checking
[09:49:31] GM: based on my read, it's not really up to the size and output of the lure, but more the detection range of the Invid in question. Only the regent and regess can sense PC in overarching wide terms, like say, the spores blossoming (and even then, that was her using the sensor nebula and not her inate abilities) thats why the invid, in true busy bee hive fashion sent so many patrols out,
[09:50:48] GM: Hoever not to lose good rolls, I'll say that Mel creates a dasiy chain 6-pac of a lure, that will last 60 hours instead of 10
[09:51:19] 2Lt. Sarah scratches her head thinking. "If we orbited the planet a few times at different relative positions, I could try to sense for any greater concentration of chatter over their hivenet. As we get closer to the hive, it shold have the most, depending on where all they have crann sensors and such, from receiving all the inbound communications…" She ponders.
[09:51:37] GM: ((same goes fo you Sarah, you'd have to be within 2 miles as well))
[09:51:40] Lt. Melanie McGregor: "So we're going to need to orbitally dump these at pretty wide sectors."
[09:52:21] GM: ((and, based on the book, communications can be intercepted, only if you place yourself inbetween the transmitter and reciever…))
[09:53:22] 2Lt. Sarah: (( sorry, trying to think up better solutions ))
[09:53:29] 2Lt. Sarah nods a little at that. "Yeah."
[09:53:57] GM: ((no, it's fine, just that your invidy abilities are more suited to the micro scale rahter then the macros scale))
[09:54:05] 2Lt. Sarah: (( hehe. k ))
[09:54:26] GM: ((of course, on earth, hiding in a log…2 miles is a long damn way…))
[09:56:44] Capt Kain Crockett: "So wehre do we want to set the decoys. Do we have orders to capture or kill?"
[09:57:15] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Sorry, not running on all cylinders again.))
[09:58:27] 2Lt. Sarah: (( *patpats* ))
[09:59:09] GM: Your orders are to determine the cause of the loss of signal (which you have done) and then, locate the cause, and if feasible eliminate.
[10:02:27] 2Lt. Sarah: "I'd suggest something else, but based on past experience and need to not reveal tactical secrets to the enemy, it's out."
[10:03:40] GM: well, there are the more mundane options…
[10:03:48] GM: like drone overflights
[10:04:15] 2Lt. Sarah: (( well yeah, use every mudane option of course ^_^ ))
[10:04:35] Capt Kain Crockett: "So, if feasible, once we locate the Hive, do we have anythign to take them out with, from orbit?"
[10:04:40] 2Lt. Sarah: (( we tend to always jump for the exotic silly bullshit before anything, don't we. ))
[10:04:58] GM: ((again, I'm trying my level best here to not get bogged down to much into the details here…))
[10:05:50] 2Lt. Sarah: "If we don't, we'll have to sneak into the hive to do it."
[10:06:04] 2Lt. Sarah: "Explosives to the core tend to work nicely."
[10:06:07] GM: Well, once you locate the hive at least a cursory investigation would be in order…after all, they may have priosners. and vital intell that would be lost in a Ortillery strike.
[10:06:29] 2Lt. Sarah hmms at that.
[10:06:37] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Why not? I believe the ideal way of negotiating is "Ask for the moon, that way when you ask for the Golden Gate Bridge instead it seems much more reasonable."))
[10:09:02] 2Lt. Sarah: (( hehe ))
[10:09:24] 2Lt. Sarah scratches her head, thinking.
[10:11:10] Capt Kain Crockett: "So we sneak in on gas-powered Cyclones and do some quick surveilance. We do not go freeing prisoners or the like until we know the full situation. Once we do, then we cause mayhem, smash and grab some intel, and call in death from above on the way out. Any problems with that?"
[10:11:59] 2Lt. Sarah: "No problems here really. I'd offer to try diplomacy to them, but with Regent forces, that's never gone well."
[10:12:26] GM: I have no objections
[10:14:04] Capt Kain Crockett: "I kinda figured. If on the off chance this leads to the whereabouts of the Regess, keep that in your back pocket. LAst intel report I read on her suggested possible better solutions with her."
[10:15:01] 2Lt. Sarah: "Extreme off chance."
[10:17:58] WO Febrith Nyx: "Seems a shame, we didn't bring any of my people's weapons with us, I mean the more advanced versions. They run on something entirely different from PC and would allow us to walk in fully armed and ready, and still be stealth."
[10:18:03] GM: Okay, using your mundane methods, you dispatch your drones to search for Invidy badness.
[10:19:57] GM: ((i think here would be a good pause point, anything I start from here on would be cut short (and we are still down an LV))
[10:20:03] 2Lt. Sarah: (( okay ))
[10:20:04] 2Lt. Sarah: (( noid ))
[10:20:06] 2Lt. Sarah: (( ^_^ ))
[10:20:12] GM: ((avoid the noid))
[10:20:20] 2Lt. Sarah: (( yeah ))
[10:20:22] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lol ))
[10:20:44] GM: ((you know me, I usually dont call things this early, but, it just seems to make sense tonight))
[10:20:49] 2Lt. Sarah: (( I remember that commercial very well,at the 1987 ALCS when the Twins were there, they were passing out little rubber noid figures to the fans going to the game ))
[10:21:03] 2Lt. Sarah: (( I don't know where mine is now, but it's for sure somewhere ^_^ ))
[10:21:17] GM: we had a dude in Basic…looked just like the noid
[10:21:22] 2Lt. Sarah: rofl
[10:21:23] GM: was funny as hell
[10:21:35] GM: that was his nickname, 'Hey! Noid!"
[10:21:47] WO Febrith Nyx: Flame beats Protoculture.
[10:24:04] GM: I ropose a sript change….
[10:24:06] GM: propose
[10:24:19] WO Febrith Nyx: What change?
[10:24:40] GM: Where he says, 'the strong arent the ones who win, the ones who win are us, I suggest we change that to, the ones who win are the ones who yell the loudest!"
[10:25:10] WO Febrith Nyx: Given super robot proclivity for that to be one in the same…
[10:25:32] 2Lt. Sarah: lmfao
[10:25:33] 2Lt. Sarah: ^_^
[10:26:17] GM: I do agree with that one guy "Jeez, what embaressing lines."
[10:26:23] 2Lt. Sarah: lmao
[10:26:23] WO Febrith Nyx: Still I kinda like the theme of Gaiking, "It's not strength that wins the day, it's determination and drive."[10:26:41] GM: Yelling with the hotblood to bring out the specials!
[10:32:56] 2Lt. Sarah: lol
[10:36:05] GM: will be interesting to see the internal squabbling between Snarky and Torture
[10:37:35] WO Febrith Nyx: Hehehe
[10:38:42] 2Lt. Sarah: ^_^
[10:46:31] GM: well, night all, unless you had any questions or comments?
[10:49:57] GM: oh, James, question…
