BEGIN LOG
[07:16:29] GM: Okay, when we last left off you had pulled a 24 and gotten vital intell out of a pirate.
[07:16:30] Capt Kain Crockett: I'm telling you, they put some kind of narcotic in the water supply. Even that bottled water is tainted.
[07:17:26] WO Febrith Nyx has the remains promptly spaced, somehow a dissected, skin-flayed being would probably ruin too many on this boat's apetite.
[07:18:36] WO Febrith Nyx: "So how do we beat a reflex cannon?"
[07:20:29] 2Lt. Sarah: (( hehe ))
[07:21:37] GM: The Fold is postponed for a day or preperation and interview during which you learn from Malicus that the area in question is a combination asteroid belt and ship graveyard from the Schism Wars. Tactics are devised in which the Havoc will fold in with her airwing already deployed, the establish wisdom being that the Monitor will be placed within beam range of the waypoint to eliminate the possibility of the target escaping. Assuming a 5 minute spin up time as the warbook states the Havoc will have ample time to ferret it out by using drones banging out false IFF / sensor ghosts. At which point the target once fixed will be fired upon. (dt)
[07:26:55] GM: The plan's drawback is that the monitor has energy mounts that wont require spin up so, there will be a knife fight. The fold is exacuted and like a Hobbsien political tretiese, the battle is nasty brutish and short. Upon folding in the monitor and her defenders spring into action with the Havoc reserving her fire until a solid lock can be established. It does not take long as the Drones are able to pick up a large ship among the debris of dozens, manuvering to bring her bow to bear on what it thinks is the Havoc as well as opening fire with her energy and missile batteries. Of the upwards of 1000 plus missiles fired by the Monitor and her own airwing, some 154 penetrate the countermissile envelope. 60 or so manage to get past the Pin Point Barriers. The Havoc and /her/ airwings counter volley of 200+ missiles is far more effective as teh Monitor has no shields. (dt)
[07:29:52] GM: The Monitor flounders as secondary explosions rip across her hull and the building arcs of lightning of her main gun charging go dark while the Havoc armor plate is rent and torn and in some areas blown completly off exposing the ribbing beneath (6200 MD taken) The pirate airwing, their missiles spent flees into the asteroids field with maybe 15% of their original number survivng.
[07:35:22] GM: Pressing forward the Havoc continues on towards the next way point and the one after it, where a startled Taul Detral turns tail and folds away towards Sala. Once the capacitors are charged the Havoc follows, emerging above the system eccleptic and proceeds in system. Over the course of a day and ahalf the Havoc and the system defenders grope about trying to locate one another. After a clash of recon pickets the Havoc is swarmed by 8 Roil corvettes of which 4 are obliterated while the other four flee towards Sala where they join up with a pair of Taul and a single Tou Redir. (I'm skimming all this becuase honestly, it took me almost four hours to roll this up alone, I cant imagine what it wuold take in game plus, all it would have been is A you sitting on your ass watching me 'play with myself' or you taking long range shots at pirates) (dt)
[07:36:45] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lol ))
[07:38:13] WO Febrith Nyx: ((heh))
[07:42:02] GM: The enemy ships advance in good order and the enemy launches their inital 1070+ missiles to our 280 with 57 penetrating the missile envelope. While again, most are deflected by the PPB enough get thru to savage the Havoc's hide. The Tou on the other hand is overwhelemed by the advanced Penetration Aids, Dragons Teeth and jamming misisles launched by the Havoc and her air wing and is all but obliterated as 16 crusie missile out of the 50 some odd missiles crash into her, setting off a ripple effect that leaves her a burning wreck. The remaining long range missiles alter course to seek the two tauls and deal moderate to limited damage to them. The twin Tauls devoid of their 'missile boat' accelerate in the hopes of closing into beam distance, but the Havoc alters course smartly and in a bit of Ship Fu, keeps the Tauls in line with the tralining one unable to get a shot for fear of hitting her own ally. (dt)
[07:44:46] GM: The havoc opens fire with a second salvo of missiles. The lead Taul is hit hard and no less then 6 large secondary explosions are seen from her. The tralining Taul is all but obliterated by the volly on her, her engines and ability to manuver immediatly lost, the only thig that saves her from outright destruction is a massive cascade failure in her power plant which kills all power abaord her leaving her a battered listing wreck. The Roils turn tail and flee, for the second time as in the distance an Aztraph Frigate with her guard of 6 roild folds out rather then try her luck.
[07:45:42] GM: The four surviving roild then accelerate and enter the planets atmosphere to land upon the surface.
[07:47:30] GM: ((all told, out of the 25,000 MD the Havoc had going into the Grand Kay, she now has 15,940 remaining) she has also used up over 500 missiles leaving her with 900 left Three drones have been lost, five fighter craft are irreprable (three others will take some time but can be made airworthy in time) and 18 of her crew are fatalaties with another 7 wounded.
[07:48:42] GM: However, she has thus far sunk 5 Tauls, 2 Tou redirs, 1 monitor, and over a dozen roils.
[07:49:18] GM: You are now in orbit over Sala.
[07:50:42] Capt Kain Crockett: ((goes up to Suki, "So you're Sun Tzu reincarnated now?"))
[07:51:17] Lt.Col Ishida: I have a long way to go before I can hope to near his storied career.
[07:51:25] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lol ))
[07:52:04] 2Lt. Sarah sits at her station with orbit achieved, making sure of the damage tally for the navigation systems and such, since that's her spot to be taking care of.
[07:52:51] Cpt. Aylanea meanwhile organizes the damage reports aand whatnot from the flight deck and fighters, and works on redistrobution of equipment to ensure flight operations aren't disrupted too badly.
[07:53:57] Lt.Col Ishida: But I will settle with being compared to Commander O'Kane
[07:54:01] Lt.Col Ishida winks
[07:54:24] LtJG Silver checks over the remaining ghosts ready to recal any in poor to dire condition
[07:54:35] Capt Kain Crockett: "Yeah, and I'm expecting to die guarding a fort."
[07:55:05] GM: All remaining Ghosts are in good working order.
[07:55:23] Lt.Col Ishida: Well, this fort moves so, at least it wont be a sedentary death.
[07:55:34] Lt.Col Ishida says, patting the arm of her chair.
[07:56:38] Lt.Col Ishida: Mr. Silver! Detail a constellation of your Ghosts to recce Sala if you please.
[07:56:39] LtJG Silver smiles " these Ghosts are pretty phenominal "
[07:57:22] LtJG Silver nods " Aye " doing so
[08:02:22] Capt Kain Crockett: "So, what are the odds that we need to blow up a Pirate Base on this world?"
[08:02:27] LtJG Silver monitors everything as he does so watching the scanners as he sets up their pattern (( Comp Op [1d100] => [7] = (7) vs 91% / Sensory Equip [1d100] => [13] = (13) vs 60% / AEW [1d100] => [83] = (83) vs 65% / Nav Space [1d100] => [71] = (71) vs 50% / Detect Ambush [1d100] => [22] = (22) vs 45% / Detect Concealment [1d100] => [41] = (41) vs 30% / Intelegence [1d100] => [62] = (62) vs 59% / Perception [1d20] => [2] = (2)
[08:02:39] Lt.Col Ishida: I woud imagine it would be high.
[08:04:55] 2Lt. Sarah: "what about odds on the pirates having taken over the government since our unfrozen popsicle went on ice? Kinda worried that might be the case ever since it was mentioned to bring him back."
[08:05:52] GM: Silver, you are able to locate where those 4 fleeing Roil corvettes went off to. They are landed at a large city on a big continent some 120 mile above the equator. Terrain is rocky hills and forest. There are another 9 large cities, as well as numerous smaller towns and villages. The surface is lso doted in the ancient wrecks of crashed Zent space craft.
[08:06:26] GM: By the looks of it, the tech level down there is a mish mash between 1930's Tirolian tech and medvialism.
[08:06:59] GM: The one large city is walled, and most towns are centered around some sort of castle / fortress structure
[08:08:43] GM: Juxtaposed with all this are a series of orbitals and the remains of an orbital elevator. (the section leading to the ground is broken off with maybe a 35 miles stretch of 'shaft' dangling from an asteroid in Low planetary orbit.
[08:09:32] LtJG Silver brings the views up on screen for Ishida and Summerwind to see for themselves and relays the information about the 4 fleeing roil corvettes " It would rather tight combat conditions down there should we persue Mam " Bringing up terran images of that location for them as well
[08:10:45] Lt.Col Ishida: Not to mention a risk to the Havoc, those towers house old zent deck guns, if we are in range, so are they.
[08:12:05] Capt Kain Crockett: ((considering my options before I open my mouth, so…))
[08:12:11] Lt.Col Ishida: Find us a landing site behind the curvature of the planet to set down in.
[08:14:42] LtJG Silver does so searching the area for an adiquit location ( Nav Land [1d100] => [100] = (100) vs 65% / Detect Concealment [1d100] => [78] = (78) vs 30% / Perception [1d20] => [17] = (17) not sure what else i could roll any sugestionions lol )
[08:15:04] LtJG Silver: (( wow horrible i'll just leave dice alone now lol ))
[08:15:45] Capt Kain Crockett works to help set up ECM on the trip down.
[08:17:05] Capt Kain Crockett: [1d100] => [91] = (91) vs 75 ECM. [1d100] => [47] = (47) vs 70 Surveilance ((just to pick good drone positions for watching stuff))
[08:17:33] GM: Kain, you hash out a few good Drone orbits to pass along to Silver.
[08:17:45] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Somebody, put the dice in orbit. I need to go reduce them to light with the Goldion Crusher.))
[08:18:37] 2Lt. Sarah watches for possible landing sites, and to ensure the ship is adjusted and properly set up for re-entrry. [1d100] => [46] = (46) nav space (vs 85%), [1d100] => [11] = (11) navigation vs. 89% [1d100] => [24] = (24) sensory equipment vs. 75%, [1d100] => [99] = (99) detect concealment vs. 80% (watching the possible spots from drone feedback)
[08:18:39] GM: Silver, a non com makes his way over after a some time, to let you know that the Col is still waiting for that landing data.
[08:19:03] LtJG Silver: ECM [1d100] => [34] = (34) vs 65% AEW [1d100] => [46] = (46) vs 65% Intelegence [1d100] => [93] = (93) vs 59%
[08:20:06] GM: Well, the bright side is, you have a good EW plan ready
[08:20:20] LtJG Silver: " I'm working on it " making further attempts to find a suitible set down location (Nav land [1d100] => [19] = (19) vs 65% / Detect Concealment [1d100] => [52] = (52) vs 30% (( apply penalties to skill as needed :P ))
[08:21:18] Capt Kain Crockett: ((….aaaand for the rest of the night Kain and Komi's only comments will be "Do a barrel roll."))
[08:21:29] LtJG Silver smiles " I found a suitable location to set down however I dont know if it will provide us with adiquit cover if we're discovered " ~_^
[08:22:13] LtJG Silver: (( that sound about right lol ))
[08:22:17] LtJG Silver: (( ^_^ ))
[08:23:09] 2Lt. Sarah: (( detect concealment fail: Te ship lands on an orphanage set under few trees for shade ))
[08:24:23] GM: ((think of the children))
[08:24:50] 2Lt. Sarah looks over the spot suggested as well, to see if she notices anything. [1d100] => [45] = (45) vs. 80% detect concealment
[08:25:15] Capt Kain Crockett: ((yes, think of the children. How many would have grown up to be dicks?))
[08:25:36] GM: The area you locate is under 'defilade' so the city cannons cannot hit you, you are alos far enough away from settlements that the curiosity factor is mitigated unless they are really really curious and have a day or two to spend getting to you (thats on foot or by animal)
[08:25:47] LtJG Silver: (( ahh job well done ^_^ ))
[08:26:07] LtJG Silver: (( the orphanage is now an abortion clinic enjoy ^_^ ))
[08:26:14] 2Lt. Sarah: (( rofl ))
[08:26:50] GM: The Havoc enteres the atmosphere and settles into a Hover over a large plain. The animals beneath run like hell.
[08:27:06] Capt Kain Crockett: ((And there is a loss to society if either goes away how?))
[08:27:42] Capt Kain Crockett: "How far are we from the cannons?"
[08:28:02] Lt.Col Ishida: Capt Crockett, deploy the GCE and set up a perimeter if you please.
[08:28:34] GM: You are about 2500 miles away, which puts you out of missile range as well
[08:29:08] GM: well likely more, curvature and all, plot miles away,
[08:29:16] GM: NOT going to waste me time on the maths
[08:29:23] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lols ))
[08:31:41] GM: Actually, 2500 miles is about right, you get your curvature, (on an earth sized world) basically you would be 100 miles off the coast of seattle, and the city is NY
[08:33:32] Capt Kain Crockett: ((I was thinking more: Veritech vs. Cyclone.))
[08:33:55] GM: Well, a Cyclone would take a long ass time, a veritech, not so much
[08:35:33] GM: Okay, so, you deploy and set up your perimeter according to SOP
[08:36:14] GM: So, now, there is a tidy military encampment under and off to the side of the Havoc which, now that you are walking around onthe ground, seems so much bigger then in space.
[08:36:20] Capt Kain Crockett considers what is known about the towers. [1d100] => [48] = (48) vs 70 RSI, [1d100] => [6] = (6)vs 71 Intelligence, [1d100] => [52] = (52) vs 70 Surveilance
[08:38:13] GM: The towers are much like similer structures found on earth after the Rain of Fire, sonework towards (or of more modern construction) with the zent turret plopped on top. Run the power feeds down the center of the tower to a powersource and bam, instant fixed defense with the ability to make a low flying ship have a very bad day
[08:38:29] GM: (sonework = stonework))
[08:39:11] GM: Think old Nazi flak towers, but nastier
[08:40:13] GM: Like this
[08:40:32] LtJG Silver: but nastier
[08:41:07] GM: Except these are built into the city walls and the city itself, so massive collatroal damage would be incured in their destruction by heavy weaponry
[08:41:16] LtJG Silver: (( like are we talking wildabeast raping roseann bar nasty or like betty white strip tease nasty lol ))
[08:41:52] LtJG Silver: (( sry ^_^ ))
[08:41:53] GM: well the wildabeast thing I would find funny, aside from the fact that the wildabeast would need psychological therapy after
[08:42:07] LtJG Silver: (( LMAO ))
[08:42:28] GM: nothing maintaines virginity then being agressivly ugly
[08:42:58] GM: hell, she could look like cindy crawford, but with her attitude…run for your LIFE
[08:43:15] GM: anyway, moving on from the crazy wardroom conversation
[08:45:23] Capt Kain Crockett: "Alright, the first thing we need to do is create a breech in their walls, insides tend to be much squishier than the tough outer shell. We then pour everything we can into the breach and hope we hit the power core. We'll fist pepper the the guns on the turrets themselves. Make it seem like that's the real target, then we have some heavy beam weapons vaporize their way into creating a big hole in the side. One there is a hole in the side big enough, we dump a bunch of SRMs and then have Komi snipe the power core if the missiles don't work. We'll be working on both towers at the same time. Any questions?"
[08:50:30] GM: Anyone?
[08:51:45] Capt. Komillia Maeless: "So what do we do after?"
[08:53:07] Capt Kain Crockett: "We withdraw, analyze battle damage and see if we need to go back to the Havoc, or if it's safe to have the havoc come to us. I'd prefer to watch and see if they repair the towers, and how fast they do it. But I think it would be best to go into the city as soon afterwards as possible and take down the local leaders."
[08:53:35] Capt Kain Crockett: ((I'm about to go insane.))
[08:55:18] GM: Anyone other then James?
[08:55:39] GM: I have tmrw off…I got ALL night
[08:55:49] LtJG Silver shakes his head offering a slight smile " I assume i'll be using the ghosts to provide support? "
[08:56:02] LtJG Silver: (( i dont :P lol ))
[08:56:40] LtJG Silver: (( sadly i work tomarrow… i close up shop 3 hours early but yeah i work tomarrow :P ))
[08:57:24] GM: ((that sucks))
[08:57:44] LtJG Silver: (( ignore the slight smile and shake of head was going to say something else :P ))
[08:57:52] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Ew, not fun.))
[08:58:24] LtJG Silver: (( well may be a holliday but people are still driving around so yeah we're open :P ))
[08:58:28] Capt Kain Crockett: "I'd prefer a minimal ghost presence, I'd rather use the bulk of what we have left for orbital recon."
[09:00:31] GM: ((is carrie alive? someone poke her with a stick, if she doenst move, take her wallet.))
[09:01:18] 2Lt. Sarah: (( eek ))
[09:01:25] 2Lt. Sarah: (( I'm here ))
[09:01:55] 2Lt. Sarah nods just a little to Kain's assessment.
[09:01:59] 2Lt. Sarah: (( sorry ))
[09:02:09] GM: Oh no, you dont get away with just a nod
[09:02:23] GM: gonna have to do better then that
[09:04:49] LtJG Silver nods " very well, I'll try to monitor the battle and provide you with real time information on enemy movements… hopefully help keep you from having to look over your shoulder for suprises… A single Ghost overhead should manage in that regard "
[09:05:17] GM: Okay, you start making your preperation when one of the Ghost reports something.
[09:06:09] LtJG Silver checks the report bringing the data up on screan
[09:06:55] LtJG Silver: (( for everyone there to see ))
[09:08:09] GM: There is a large amount of armor approaching from the east. They are some 1800 miles away. But a quick low level pass adds more detail. There are vehicles down there that well, look like someone took the missiles pods off the top of Zent artillery pods, and mounted then onto Bioroid hover sleds, and then added a crew cab.
[09:11:43] GM: There are at least 100 or so vehicles with the heavy pods, some 50 or so with the medium pods and then there are some hover sleds obviously repuropes into tanks and apcs
[09:11:51] Capt Kain Crockett: ((AFK, bio.))
[09:12:52] GM: Also, there are two , well, the look like Roil corvettes, but, they are only about 10 to 15 over the ground, and look like someone built a mini castle on their top deck. basically turned them into a floating fortress base, thing
[09:13:44] GM: all the vheicles have banners and other accouterments one would normally ascribe to medievel heraldry
[09:15:31] GM: …
[09:17:34] LtJG Silver: " I dont believe we'll be having to go to them after all "
[09:18:34] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Back.))
[09:18:39] Lt.Col Ishida: Well, they certianly do get marks for resoursefullness.
[09:19:02] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Am I going to have to do the plan again? If so, I'm going carpet bombing, with nukes.))
[09:20:15] 2Lt. Sarah blinks and shakes her head at the mini-castles on the roils, smiling just a bit at the idea. "Cute…"
[09:20:16] 2Lt. Sarah: (( lol ))
[09:20:30] Lt.Col Ishida: Kain, be a dear and detaila flight to deter their advance. Once they get within 1000 miles we will be in range of their missiles. I'd rather not test any massed salvo while we are on the ground with only our dorsal counter missile batteries available.
[09:20:39] 2Lt. Sarah: (( inbounds to deal with first ;) ))
[09:21:39] Lt.Col Ishida: Watch for those midrange launchers however, my bet is that they are hopeing to get close enough to use them as well, but they will make a formidible anti aircraft net.
[09:23:11] Lt.Col Ishida also has Malicus brought to the screen to identify the heardlry
[09:24:21] Capt Kain Crockett: ((Shouldn't that comment have been more correctly directed at Ay? She's the CAG. Kain would just mobilize his unit from some aerial bombardment followed by a series of ground-based skirmishes before letting the rest fall to the havoc's guns.))
[09:24:25] Malicus: I, I recognize those sigals, House Tavaan, when I left they were a up and coming mercantile House, with trade routes all across the north.
[09:25:21] LtJG Silver: " should we try to make contact befor starting another engagement? "
[09:25:33] GM: Well, if you want to fly, FLY right into the face of 50 AA units sure, I was thinking more along the lines of your idea of using the veritech as a ground air ground air beast,
[09:25:50] Cpt. Aylanea hmms at that. "Might be a thought if it's a house group."
[09:26:17] LtJG Silver: " we may be able to deter any more needless loss of life "
[09:28:52] Cpt. Aylanea nods at that. "Yeah. And depending on how friendly they are, well, be nice having some of that anti-air if someone who for sure isn't friendly notices us."
[09:28:53] GM: If you really want help just make tactics rolls…
[09:29:39] LtJG Silver: " They dont seem as much like the pirates we faced befor after all we don't fully understand what is going on in this world and they are begining to appear less and less like pirates… they are very organized and appear more military then anything "
[09:29:50] 2Lt. Sarah: [1d100] => [40] = (40) military tactics vs. 99
[09:31:25] Capt Kain Crockett: "We take the Veritechs on a ground march, targetting the AA defenses first. We stay in Battloid and low to the ground for the duration. After that, we take to the air and dive bomb the shit out of the largest concentration of forces. We then move to encircle the eneme, go to ground and low altitude and push them back together for one last strike. Will the Captain like the honors or should we leave that to our torture technician in a Delta?"
[09:31:50] GM: Nonewithstanding what Silver is saying, on a purely tactical point, yes a bombing strafing run would be effective but with heavy losses in the face of that potential AA defense, better to get in close, land, in battloid, and start attritting / harrassing them where their missiles will be of less use due to terrain.
[09:32:49] Capt Kain Crockett: "Can somoen please send a comm out to ascertain the situation. Perhaps there is a diplomatic end to all of this?"
[09:33:51] GM: Also manpower wise, you could theroitacally surround them, but there would be no way to contain them. There are to many of them, if they wanted to break out, they could, they would get hurt, but they could.
[09:34:37] 2Lt. Sarah nods. "If we can prevent an issue over the radio, it would be the best bet."
[09:34:43] Capt Kain Crockett: ((don't have to wipe the enemy completely out for to route them.))
[09:35:26] GM: OOps sorry, no raido, you have a trumpet? lol
[09:35:38] LtJG Silver: (( :P ))
[09:35:43] GM: Sorry, bad, but funny joke
[09:36:07] LtJG Silver: (( sends up smoke signals and sees if they send any back ))
[09:36:42] GM: Okay, so what message would you like to send?
[09:36:57] Capt. Komillia Maeless plays a little guitar. [1d100] => [38] = (38) vs 70 Play Instrument.
[09:37:07] LtJG Silver: (( um that would be more between the captain and the enemy's commander i would immagine ~_^ ))
[09:37:45] GM: ((yes, but the Col is an NPC…so))
[09:38:06] Capt Kain Crockett: "Identify ourselves and purpose (cleansing the space lanes of pirates), ask for the identity of the enemey commander identity and his/her intentions.
[09:38:14] LtJG Silver points to the Captain lol since he'll be meeting them in the field lol ))
[09:38:24] Capt Kain Crockett: ((AND Bio agin…))
[09:40:04] 2Lt. Sarah nodnods, and tries to work up something good along those lines to sound good for the other side. [1d100] => [17] = (17) public speaking vs. 64%, [1d100] => [90] = (90) military etiquette vs. 79%, [1d100] => [19] = (19) vs. 97% Trust.
[09:40:08] 2Lt. Sarah: (( ow ))
[09:41:29] GM: Okay, you cobble together a message to be sent via radio. A Ghost acts as an uplink and the message is sent
[09:41:44] GM: [1d100] => [39] = (39) higher the better
[09:42:25] GM: There is no reply, you arent sure if the message got trhu and is being ignored, or never got thru
[09:43:09] LtJG Silver attempts to check to see if their signals are being jammed and or whatever lol [1d100] => [77] = (77) AEW vs 65%
[09:43:15] LtJG Silver: yeah fuck these dice
[09:43:15] LtJG Silver: :P
[09:43:34] LtJG Silver: (( changes MOS to "Cook"
[09:43:53] GM: I'll be kind, there could be many reasons, maybe they really DONT have radios, maybe the pirates with the high tech control them so only they heard it, maybe the pirates jammed the transmissions, etc etc
[09:43:58] 2Lt. Sarah tries to check the radio settings a little bit [1d100] => [8] = (8) vs. 89% radio basic
[09:44:36] GM: Now go forth and get thy hands dirty
[09:44:55] GM: The longer you delay, the closer those missiles get
